I’m really uncertain about this move. They clearly need to find revenue streams, so I don’t begrudge them trying this, but I’m just not certain that people actually use the Directory as a primary means of finding new Tumblrs to follow. Also, are people going to follow people who feel the need to pay for Tumblr exposure? It feels really off to me.
