The Rape Tunnel. But is it art?
So… Richard Whitehouse, an artist from Ohio is constructing a piece called The Rape Tunnel. It’s an installation in a gallery, a long narrowing tunnel that can be walked through, and he’s promising that anybody who enters it during the exhibition, he’ll attempt to rape.
WTF?!
i don’t know what to think about this.
I do. Fucking bullshit. This isn’t thought-provoking, or interesting, or beautiful, or even tragic. It’s fucking bullshit. I’ve always found the black canvas culture of modern art lazy and depressing, and this just ups the ante on how insipid one can be and still call it art. THREE GREY BLANKETS FOLDED ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER IS NOT ART, AND NEITHER IS RAPE.
And hey, guess what? If you advertise rape some pathetic freak will probably take you up on your offer, and that kind of braindead DUH is not art, either. It’s pathetic and sad. If this is art, then fuck art. The local police should send in the toughest female officer they have to kick his ass and haul him off to jail where he belongs.
Here’s the deal, budding artists and performance freaks: Making people mad, in and of itself, is not art. Art should use every tool at its disposal, which often includes controversial or fringe culture material, to tap into universal truths (I can be an atheist and still believe in things that connect us, so fuck you) that bind us together in some way to help us understand that we’re not alone in this crazy universe. This kind of bullshit does the exact opposite.
So fuck this guy. He just crawled through my rape tunnel.
