Immortality only 20 years away →
Scientist Ray Kurzweil claims humans could become immortal in as little as 20 years’ time through nanotechnology and an increased understanding of how the body works. This immortality thing is a false economy because there can be only one.
Also iPod nanotechnology will mean that we can play music, video and take pictures, too. Don’t ask about the headphone jack.
Kurzweil has been peddling this line of quasi-religious miracle science for a long time, and as smart as I’m sure he is, I’m not sold yet. I think many medical breakthroughs are on the horizon, but immortality carries with it obstacles and growing pains that I think he may be glossing over to further his own missionary agenda.
If we can tackle HIV and cancer in 20 I’ll be happy. After that, I think we need to pace ourselves.
Related: You think our economy is a mess now? Wait until everyone is living to be 200.

I don’t get it either. It’s the biggest part of the mythical ‘heaven’ ideal that absolutely confounds me.
